Robert Mitchell’s Panacea is a unique award winning ensemble blending contemporary jazz, m-base, classical, and fusion through song and instrumentals. The core features: Robert Mitchell (piano, keys), Deborah Jordan (vocals), Tom Mason/ Tom Farmer (on bass), and Laurie Lowe (drums). Panacea offers a unique residency opportunity with masterclass-style rehearsals that involve not just musical instruction, but also delve into the spirit, logistics, and even business of musical collaboration(examples from Southampton University below).
Through its residency activities, Panacea is seeking out a chorus to work with on an “unnamed” recording project. Details of the project have yet to be revealed to the public.
The only residency requirements for Panacea are as follows:
- Minimum choir size – 12 or 16 (SATB) – but a smaller committed ensemble would be considered.
- 6 rehearsal minimum + one performance
Case Study: Residency at Southampton University.
This particular project was entirely filmed and supported brilliantly by Southampton University and filmmaker Garth Thomas. The video below contains interviews and excerpts from the developmental stages of the residency.
This resulted in a wonderful performance of new music for the band and a student chorus. The vocal arrangements were specially written for this project, and the work continues to expand. The following video is from a portion of the concert:
